#LondonAdventure Camellia’s Tea House – Kingly Court – Soho

gorgeous cakes at Camellia's Tea House as reviewed by The London Adventurer

There’s nothing a good cuppa tea can’t solve.

Rarely a day passes when a muffit of strong Yorkshire doesn’t pass my lips and many an office day is segmented by the timings of the next tea break so when the opportunity arose to go and meet creators of Camellia’s Tea House in Kingly Court, Soho- I wasn’t going to turn down a cup.

The tea house is tucked right at the back of eclectic Kingly Court and you enter through wooden doors into a tea palace.  Jars and cups line the shelves dotted in-between by mismatch crockery in quaint patterns and prints.  Rose pink icing topped with jewels of pistachio and shiny pastel macaroons wink at you from the counter-tops, just teasing for a slice to be popped onto your plate.

This is the place to go if you want a real afternoon cream tea; buttery pillows of scone piled high with real country clotted cream and a good sweet dollop of jam. You can’t go wrong with a slice of their carrot cake either which I’ve heard is the best in London.  My tastebuds aren’t quite distinguished enough to hold that claim to be true.  There’s a lot of carrot cake in London and I’ve sampled but a crumb.

I drank their rich bodied Assam, amber and gold in colour and perfect to match the rich, sweet cakes. All their tea is personally sourced and packaged rather than many of the expensive brands you see in the shops today.

Owners, Ajit and his mother Jessie, were completely charming and enlightened us. The perfect spot to while away an afternoon with a girlfriend if you’re just about to kill yourself having attempted to shop on Oxford Street.

Treat yourself, it is Sunday…
